Cycling from Alcúdia

Nine of the island's 75 published climbs (counting each direction up a pass separately) start within 30 km of Alcúdia by road, and riding all of them would gain 2,233 m. Widen that to 50 km — a hire car, or a long morning out and back — and it is 29.

What this base is for

Alcúdia does not top any measure, and neither do most of these towns. Its best result is 13th of 18 on the number of climbs within reach. The one to plan a day around is Coll de Femenia: 485 m gained over 14.0 km at 3.5%, with 10.6 km of road between the town and the foot of it. Most of the riding here is in one kind of country: 72% of the height within reach is in the Serra de Tramuntana. If the week is only about climbing, the nearest town that beats it is Ca'n Picafort, 11 km away by road: 15 climbs within 30 km against 9 here, 1.7 times the choice for an hour in a car.

Climbs within reach

Every published climb whose foot is within 30 km of Alcúdia by road, nearest first. The approach is how far you ride before the climb starts, measured on the shortest rideable road, which is rarely the one you would choose.

How we got this Dijkstra over the same OpenStreetMap road graph the routes engine uses — no motorway, because a bicycle may not ride a Mallorcan autopista; cycleways in; ways tagged access=private, no, customers or permit dropped before routing. It is the approach ride to where the gradient starts, not a route recommendation: the shortest path between two points is rarely the road you would choose. Distances are to the climb’s foot as the climb measurements record it.Computed from the shortest ridable road distance from each town’s OpenStreetMap place node to the foot of every one of the 122 measured climbs (each direction up a pass counted separately), joined to the 75 published here.Computed 6 August 2026.

Signed routes from here

2 of these 5 signed routes run through Alcúdia itself. The rest are joined further along, at Port d'Alcúdia, Ca'n Picafort and Inca, and the road distance to that point is the figure in the table.

How we got this No new measurement: a route is joined only through a town that is both one of its own waypoints and one of the towns the road distances were measured from. Every distance here is therefore an existing road distance, and every “runs through” means the route and the town share the same OpenStreetMap node. Matching on node ids misses a settlement mapped under two nodes. s’Arenal is mapped twice, once either side of the Palma/Llucmajor boundary, so its second node was added by hand after both entries were checked. A route is reached through the nearest measured town on it, which is never closer than the true way on and may be further, and that town is named beside the figure.Computed from the sixteen signed cicloturisme routes’ own place waypoints, matched by OpenStreetMap node id against the 30 km road table this cluster already holds.Computed 6 August 2026.

Which parts of the island the climbs are in

The climbs within reach of Alcúdia are spread across three comarques. The shares matter more than the count: they tell you whether a week here is mostly mountains with a flat day, or mostly flat with a mountain day.

Hiring a bike here

No surveyed hire shop stands in Alcúdia, and that matters less here than it looks. Pro Cycling Mallorca draws a 45 km circle around Port d'Alcúdia and delivers free inside it; Alcúdia is 2.2 km away by road, which is inside. Eight operators in all promise to deliver across the island, so a bike reaches the hotel door here without anybody riding out to collect one.

  • Shops in town0
  • Operators that can supply you here8
  • Inside the published free-delivery circle yes — 2.2 km by road
  • From the one per-kilometre door8.3 km

This site publishes no nearest-shop distance, and the reason is worth stating: Mallorca Cycling Center, Can Velo Mallorca and Berganti Bikes trade from towns it has not measured a road network from, so any such figure would be an upper bound printed as an answer.

Compare bike hire on Mallorca

Every operator the survey reads, the delivery term each one publishes and the sentence it comes from: the island’s hire field.

How we got this every delivery term here is a sentence the operator published, stored word for word and re-checked as a verbatim substring of the page at each read; the classification into free, charged, priced by zone, priced by the kilometre or unstated is made by a printed pattern rather than by reading. Distances are road distances on the same graph the rest of this cluster uses. No price is stored: where an operator names a figure, the currency symbol is read as a delimiter and nothing on the money side of it is captured. No nearest-shop distance is computed at all — three surveyed shops stand in towns outside this measurement, so every such figure would be an upper bound.Computed from the fleet and delivery pages of 18 Mallorcan road-bike hire operators, against this site's road measurement of the island's base towns.Computed 20 October 2026.

Getting here

58 km of driving from the terminals at Palma airport by the quickest route. That is a distance, measured the same way for every base, and not a journey time. A bike box does not fit in every hire car, and once you leave the airport, getting it to the hotel is your problem, not the airline's.

If the plan includes climbs beyond a comfortable spin, compare Mallorca car hire.

If it does not, a fixed-price transfer with a bike box declared up front is the simpler answer: book an airport transfer.

How we got this a second road graph, built for this measurement alone: motorway and its slip roads included, cycleways excluded, the bicycle access filter off — because a rider arrives by taxi or hire car and the shortest ridable path is not that journey. Edges are weighted by the posted maxspeed where OpenStreetMap has one and by road class where it does not, so the route is the one a driver takes rather than the shortest line. It is a distance, not a journey time: nothing here models traffic.Computed from the length of the quickest driving route from the terminal buildings at Palma airport to each town’s OpenStreetMap place node.Computed 6 August 2026.

Where to stay

The island's own register licenses 15 establishments within 2 km of the centre of Alcúdia, between them 534 bed places, the largest of them 267 on its own. A further four the register files here carry no coordinate to place them by, so they are outside that count. The search below covers this town only.
