The verdict

A strong month that nothing on the record argues against.

Light

Three days of February — the first, the middle and the last — computed for this island. Civil dawn and civil dusk are the ends of the window you can ride in without lights; sunrise and sunset are when the disc crosses a sea horizon.

Across the month the light window averages 11h 38m against 10h 43m of sun above the horizon — about 55m of twilight you can use.

The island is wide enough to matter a little: mid-month the sun sets at 18:23 out at Cap de Formentor and 18:27 at Sant Elm. What moves the evening far more than longitude is the Serra itself — these are sea-horizon times, and a valley under a 1,400 m wall loses the sun long before the island does.

Wind

Ask what the wind does in February and you are asking two questions at once. How much of it you ride in is decided by the hour you roll out, not by the month — and the record is emphatic about that. Whether the month hands you a day the island simply takes off you is the other question, and that one really is seasonal — it is the only part of the island’s wind that ranks a month at all.

At 07:00 the wind at Palma de Mallorca averages 2.1 m/s — 8 km/h, which is nothing. By 15:00 it averages 5.1 m/s, 18 km/h. That is 3.0 m/s between the two ends of one February day. The largest difference between any two months of the year, compared at the same hour, is 2.6 m/s. So in February the hour you leave is worth 1.2 times the month you booked.

The sea breeze arrives at 12:00. It arrives somewhere between 11:00 and 13:00 in every month of the year — never earlier, never later, in fifty years of records. That is the single most useful thing on this page: the island does not have a windy season so much as a windy half of the day, and the hour it begins barely moves from January to December.

The daily reversal is not running yet. Morning and afternoon are only 74° apart at Palma de Mallorca, so what blows in February tends to blow the same way all day — which makes an out-and-back honest again, in the months when nothing else about the weather is.

The other question. Force 6 reaches 2.2% of February’s riding hours at Palma de Mallorca — the windiest month of the year for it. The year runs from 0.2% in June to 2.2% in February — about one riding hour in 46 here, against one in 640 at the calm end of the year. This is the part of the wind that really is a season, and it is the part no start time can do anything about.

The clock here is the island’s and the compass is this station’s. A sea breeze blows onshore, so a wind rose measured on the bay of Palma is not the rose at Port de Pollença, and nothing on this page models a coast it has not measured.

Weather

An average February at Palma airport: 15.4 °C by day, 4.0 °C at the coldest part of the night, 32 mm of rain across 5.1 days and 166 hours of sunshine. These are thirty-year normals, so they say what the month usually does and nothing at all about the week you have booked.

AEMET measures all of that at the airport, five metres above the sea, and the plain is not where you will spend the day. The highest road top in these records — Puig Major — stands 868 m above the station, and no thirty-year normal for sea level describes it. A second thermometer on the Serra does: paired with the airport hour by hour, it puts the air at that top at 8.9 °C around midday in February. For what the mountain is doing today rather than usually, AEMET publishes Escorca (Lluc), at 481 m, the one Tramuntana station with something new on it every day.

After sunset

Two Spanish traffic rules are written against the sun rather than the clock, which makes them facts about the month you are in — one of them today, and the second from 1 October 2026. February puts sunset at 18:26 mid-month.

• Between sunset and sunrise lights are compulsory, and on an interurban road a cyclist must also wear something reflective visible at 150 metres (Art. 98.1 + 98.3). In February that starts at 18:26 mid-month — essentially every road you will ride here.

  “Todos los vehículos que circulen entre el ocaso y la salida del sol … deben llevar encendido el alumbrado … Cuando sea obligatorio el uso del alumbrado, los conductores de bicicletas llevarán, además, colocada alguna prenda reflectante que permita a los conductores y demás usuarios distinguirlos a una distancia de 150 metros, si circulan por vía interurbana.”

  From 1 October 2026 the rule moves to Art. 118.2, keys off sunset directly rather than off the lighting requirement, and accepts a light instead of a garment.

• Two abreast is allowed today, keeping as far right as the road permits, with no rule about the sun at all (Art. 36.2).

  From 1 October 2026 the same article gains a sunset clause: a group two abreast goes single file between sunset and sunrise. In February that would be anything still rolling after 18:26.
